I think the Replica is one of the best delays out there but if youre looking for something with a darker tone and more dirt and flutter then look elsewhere. The Princeton can handle most pedals but I would go for something versatile since you want to cover a lot of ground and, the amp would need something with a bit of compression and mid range. The Empress Tape Delay vs the El Capistan, I still prefer the El Capistan, I own them both, the Strymon just seems a bit more organic to me, but the Empress is a great pedal, I have not gotten rid of it. Do you think it could be used to recreate Davids delays? Again, a darker sounding delay unit, compared to the Memory Man, less headroom and not as organic sounding.

Where the Boonar excelled was with the swell switch and especially with the multihead selection interface: while the multiheads sounded as good with the Echorec, having a knob with no detents that doesnt immediately indicate which heads are activated was a bit frustrating. I bought it new back the. It should cover all you need. I am in the market for buy a new delay pedal with a good interface. Check out the UniVibe and modulation guides for some tips :). Very similar to the Flashback. However, its still a very good sounding analog unit that should fit even the tightest budgets. Not more to say safe buy :). Realise it is not as tweakable as FTT but still looks quite good for straight forward delay. I was wondering if you have tried the strymon dig? If you had to choose between a T-Rex Replica and a Strymon El Capistan to replicate Davids 70s tones but also just to have a high class analog delay, which one would you pick? The Alter Ego is great but check out the Dawner Prince Boonar as well. In some ways you could describe this as a 2-head tape machine delay, but with a little more control. I was thinking maybe the Careful With That Axe Eugene volume swell technique, with lots of echo and maybe the Electric Mistress? They can be a real hassle to carry around if you tour a lot but great fun if you dont mind or mostly are using them at home/studio. [I dont think there is a true Binson mode on it although both the tube and tape modes would function at least as the Echorec 1 setting with a single head repeat. Some small note to the sound of T-Rex Replica: I have a try at some delays (TC flashback, Boss DD-20 and others) but the problem was, that first echo and sometimes also second one were somehow too sharp at the beginning of the sound. You might want to look at the EXH Memory Man for similar sounds or, the Dawner Prince Boonar if you want something as close to the real deal as possible. Some time ago, I replaced it with a Retro-Sonic Analog Delay, a Boss DM-2 replica with longer delay time (800 ms). if i use the effects loop with mooer elady, I can strongly hear the flangers rotations. So they sound more soaring and fluid. I was planning on getting a Providence Chrono to run alongside it to make sure I have all the bases covered, but I honestly dont think I will anymore.
