A service of thanksgiving for the Queen's reign will take place on Thursday, June 2, 2022. DCMS are managing the public areas. The celebration will see famous faces from the world of entertainment brought together to perform for a night of musical tributes to celebrate the Jubilee. Both BBC and ITV are expected to be covering the celebrations. puppet marching To celebrate this unprecedented anniversary, events and initiatives will take place throughout the year, culminating in a four day UK bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June. The Principal beacon, involving The Tree of Trees (a 21m high 'tree' constructed of 350 smallertrees), will be lit in a special ceremony at Buckingham Palace at 9pm. This new presentation is a reflection of our global interdependence and a celebration of our shared heritage and identity. The Pageant begins on Whitehall, goes through Admiralty Arch and then up The Mall. Children and young people from across the UK are being invited to create a Commonwealth of Kindness with the Ideas Foundation and a Sustainability Street Party with the Engineering Development Trust in two new initiatives to leave a lasting impact on their careers and communities. The Platinum Jubilee Pageant will take place from 14.30 17.00 BST on Sunday 5th June. Crossing into the new millennia, The Time of our Lives will reflect the technological advances which have changed and impacted modern Britain over the last two decades.This act will also feature 150 national treasures including TV personalities, musicians, chefs, sportspeople, designer, and artists who have helped shape British culture of the last 70 years. Happy shall be a street dance parade with over 80 dancers depicting celebrations, jubilee parties and Royal Weddings whilst Glorious will feature a magnificent carnival float reflecting Royal Insignia, The Commonwealth and Pomp and Splendour. A single dancer a young woman with a flowing baton in hand, will joyfully skip, dance and play with an epic 21 foot tall Hatchling dragon puppet, as they interact with the crowds around them. The Pageant will take audiences from post-war 1950s Britain with Lambeth Walkers and jivers, to the 1970s with northern soulies and glam rockers, all the way to the 1990s with acid ravers and Britpop power. Community Beacons thousands of beacons will be lit by communities, charities and different groups throughout the regions of the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories. Working with schools from the UK and Commonwealth, the Ideas Foundation is reaching over 1,000 children with their creative brief to create posters on the themes of community, kindness and a love for nature - a Commonwealth of Kindness. For the first time ever, rival creatives from Britains oldest carnival tradition are collaborating to interpret The Crown, Royal Heraldry, and the Royal Yacht Britannia.Their performance will be split into two Great British parts Happy and Glorious. The finale will be joined by national treasures from the world of the performing arts, entertainment, fashion, business and media, including Jeremy Irons, Bill Bailey and Gok Wan.
