Saboga Island is great to visit for a day trip but if you want to spend a few nights Id recommend staying at the island below and visiting from there. For years, families in Panama set up their own nativity scenes around the city but after the restoration ofIglesia San Felipe de Neri, one family donated their massive scene that they built up over the years for everyone to enjoy.
Contadora Island is located right next to Saboga Island and is home to many great hotels and restaurants (which makes it more popular for overnight trips.)
This will give you time to properly relax on the beach and explore the island. Entrance to the park is only $7 USD and if seeing a sloth is on your bucket list, then this is a convenient way to check that off without having to leave Panama City. Visitors fill the observation deck to watch this impressive cruise ship pass through the Panama Canal at the Miraflores Locks in Panama City.

If youre visiting Panama with kids, its best to arrive when it opens at 6:00 PM. The Wyndham Hotel is connected to the Albrook Mall making it a good choice to stay in Panama if you are flying out the next day. This hotel has housed many famous people over the years but unfortunately for me, I only saw the hotel from the outside.
It is included in many Panama City Day Tours, so if you dont have transportation, chances are youll be able to see it if you book a tour! During my visit, I hiked all the trails and it took just over 3 hours at a steady but enjoyable pace. We prefer to use Uber for transportation around Panama City. The city is safe, the people are friendly, and the wildlife is well, wild! helpful and informative. The name stuck and even though they are not made here, they are very popular. It only costs $5 USD to enter Pipeline road. Its located 20 minutes outside the city and offers excellent views of Panama. I guarantee you wont be disappointed!
This would still be a great experience and perfect for those on a tight budget (Panama isnt exactly cheap.)
The canal stretches over 82 kilometers (51 miles) and is made up of artificial lakes, and of course, those thin canals youve likely seen in photos.
The site has interpretive signs in both English and Spanish and only takes an hour or so to explore. Looking back, Im so glad I made the most of my time in Panama City and really think others should too!

I will say that the turtle encloser was a little underwhelming and could definitely benefit from some upgrades.
While there, plan to visit the Panama Rainforest Discovery Center and climb 174 steps to the top of the Observation Tower. So, I asked my hotel where the best place close by to go would be and they suggested Ancon Hill. Its the 14th largest mall in the world and thats saying a lot.
If you have the time, we recommend you stay overnight on one of the islands. There are 4 different species that call Monkey Island home, they are the Mantled Howler Monkey, White-Faced Capuchin Monkey, Tamarin Monkey, and the Lemurine Owl Monkey.
I had no idea that the Panama Canal was intertwined with wide and vast waterways.
The canal has a lock system that raise and lower ships to Gatun Lake, a large freshwater artificial lake that sits 85 feet above sea level. The partial cruise just takes you through on section of the narrow canal whereas the full tour takes you through all 3 canals and the man-made lake from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean.
The ferry to the island leaves from the Trump Tower and costs $98 USD return for adults.

Our tour began in Panama City but we quickly left the city and headed to Gamboa Marina to catch our boat out to the island. Next on my list is a place youll visit on any guided tour on Casco Viejo.
Its also a pretty cool and funky building! There isnt much to do at the top except admire the view, but the walk there is beautiful and this is easily one of the best things to do in Panama City! Casco Viejo, (Old Town) is the historic center of Panama City that is being restored to its original glory. Travel to the San Blas Islands is not easy. There are several walls and facades remaining and they are doing regular restoration.
We stumbled upon this square during a walk around the city and fell in love with its colonial architecture, its lovely white gazebo and the shady trees lining the square. There are a few ways to explore this old part of the city. Another residential neighborhood popular with ex-pats is Punta Pacifica.
