You also don't see an impeller that size (15.8") on a 3 horse machine normally, I'd bet it moves more air than the competition.
What an amazing difference in dust capture as well as planer, jointer and router table debris. I would say eventually I'll add those. They have some that are very small foot prints, and have flow ratings that you can trust. It has a new canister/filter, sure would be nice to not spend 2-3k for a new set-up.
That's still probably not correct, but if more comparable to what the others indicate. I added the pleated filter and that helped a lot . That's why the short-cone systems make a big point of having a built-in beater to help clean the filter. I agree with PackerGuy and EdL. That is, more dust gets to the filter. Many of the short-cone designs even have a motorized beater. I hate throw away tools. Motor shop quoted me $600 out the door for a replacement motor. Short-cone designs like the Laguna extract less dust from the airstream than long-cone designs. Picked up the starter capacitor this morning. If I end up running 220, it will be an Oneida I think but would really like to be able to use the 120v/20amp outlets I have.
I believe that dust collection is one of those specialized applications that might be best served by manufacturers who specialize in dust collection.
I see a lot of guys using portable units as de facto stationary units, which is fine if that was your original intention. If you're looking to keep the cost down, do consider Grizzly. Got to it after lunch, changed out and plugged it in. I think I would go with the Oneida. Right before shutting down on me, she was vibrating pretty bad, bad enough it cracked the electronics box on motor in half.. wow, must have had a previous crack somewhere.

Not sure how you can get that much difference of CFM's out of a machine that look that similar? I had the large Delta dust collector for a lot of years when I did almost all flat work utilizing a table saw, 15" planer, 8" jointer, etc. Oversizing a dust collector results in no harm. Umm, maybe if the motor dies again, get a good motor to replace it.
Some people claim that the shorter cyclone design used by Laguna and other manufacturers can reduce effective separation of fines from larger dust particles and cause the filter to clog faster. My first was a 2hp Grizzly, after a couple years I made a home made cyclone for it and dumped the bags - much better. I purchase all lumber rough cut so I have a lot more chips to collect to get to finished size (I get much straighter stock this way). What does the planer mfg suggest? You want that one to do the job right out of the box. Yea, I checked my tools, nothing missing LOL, but for SnGs I will go through the chip bag to make sure it was a big piece of bark and not a tool that went through it. I often leave 2-4 gates open at the same time with the Oneida 3hp and it works great. Reduces the sound level by about 10db.
