The beam was soda blasted, which fulfilled the brief beautifully as the timber is now back to it's natural state and showcasing all of its original rustic charm and character (not a flake of paint to be seen, which is quite remarkable considering how gnarled several aspects of the beam are with shakes, knots, woodworm damage and the like).
