SF no longer requires that restaurants, bars, theaters and gyms check for proof of vaccination, but they can choose to require it, so check each venue individually. In addition to the regular street cars that travel all over the city, San Francisco has a rail line with antique street cars from other cities that runs from the Castro District to the Ferry Building and down the Embarcadero to Fisherman's Wharf. Golden Gate Transit is a public transportation company that mainly provides bus and ferry services for the North Bay (Marin County and Sonoma County, north of the Golden Gate). Otherwise, for most visitors, it would probably be easier just to get one of the bus passes (SF Visitor Passports) for a limited number of days. Clipper Card The Clipper Card is an easy way to use the various modes of public transportation throughout San Francisco. Indoorswimming pools are open to full capacity. No proof of vaccination is required for the Alcatraz tours. One-way fare is $2. Clipper Cards purchased online are mailed, so if you want to get a Clipper Card for this pass and use it right away, you can buy the card for $3 at a number of locations(including most ticket booths) in the city, then set up the account and put the pass on it. Buses are substituting for suspended lines. Occasionally, the trip might take longer. Purchased separately, all those attractions come to $138 (or $97 for kids), vs. $76 ($56 kids) for the CityPass. San Francisco is made up of 49 square miles of long boulevards, curvy streets, hidden alleyways and lots of hills. If the money on the card isn't sufficient, or it didn't register properly, it will beep and show a red light. There are no quarantine requirements for travelers to SF. There are also many smartphone apps, including the 511 SF Bay Transit Trip Planner app, that provides maps, routes and times. Thank you for your support! You will need to tap it again when leaving the BART station (but not the Muni station) so the correct fee can be deducted. The app has gotten mixed reviews; works well for some but not for others, apparently. The two Powell lines leave from the same spot on Market Street, and use the same line. PresidiGo Shuttle The PresidiGo Shuttle system provides free and accessible transportation to and around the Presidio from three routes in the city, seven days a week. In the Domestic Terminals, shuttles pick up passengers curbside on the Arrivals Level terminal. United's domestic flights are based out of Terminal 3, with service in the International Terminal as well. Not so good: the San Francisco public transportation system can seem very confusing and complicated. Consecutive days. Anyone under 19 years of age rides buses and streetcars free (not cable cars). These boards are located on the Arrivals/Baggage Claim Level of all terminals. Both lines then emerge (at different points) and run like streetcars and trains above ground for the rest of their routes. Muni Metro ends (or starts) at the Embarcadero station, while BART continues under the bay in the Transbay Tube to Oakland and beyond. San Francisco Muni operates both a bus system and a network of streetcars (or trolleys) that run on rails. Clipper Cards can be used on many regional Bay Area transit systems outside SF, but MuniMobile is only usable in the city. The Amtrak San Joaquin offers departures from Bakersfield and Fresno. A round-trip fare from SFO to downtown San Francisco is $19.30 ($9.65 one-way). Woods, the Botanic Gardens, Golden Gate Park, Japanese Tea Garden, Pier 39, SF Exceptions: you do need a reservation to take the Alcatraz ferry. Note: the official website says exact change is required, but in practice they make change for bills $20 or smaller. Both the Day Tours, Night Tours and Behind the Scene Tours are running now. Board a train for the quick eight-minute ride from OAK to the BART Coliseum station, where you can transfer to the BART train bound for your final destination in San Francisco. Indoorconcerts, live theater, and sporting events, may open at full capacity. Ride Sharing There are a few on-demand car services to choose from, most of them started by San Francisco locals. (This pass no longer includes a transportation pass, but it is still a good deal if you plan on doing the attractions listed.). But if you need the pass right away, load the pass a ticket booth. They operate from 10:30 am to 6 pm back and forth; it's about a half hour journey. Golden Gate Transit's bus route #30 (San Rafael-San Francisco) runs from the Transbay Terminal downtown, with multiple stops along Market Street and Van Ness Ave. Here are a few ways to avoid them: You need topurchase a ticket before getting onat the cable car turnarounds at Powell & Market, Hyde & Beach, and Bay & Taylor. The 2-day pass and the 1-day plus pass on the City-Sightseeing Hop On Hop Off Buses include a city tour covering most of the popular tourist attractions, plus a tour across the Golden Gate Bridge to the cute seaside town of Sausalito, and a night tour of the city (with a great view from Treasure Island). When you board, hold the card over a scanner and listen for the beep to make sure that you have an adequate balance on your card for your fare. They run a ferry service to several locations around SF Bay, including Sausalito, Tiburon and Angel Island. Taxis depart from roadway islands on the lower level outside the Arrivals/Baggage Claims area in all terminals. When the SF Giants are playing home games at Oracle Park (formerly AT&T Park), the SF Bay Ferry operates special ferry services to the ballpark. The little yellow Go Cars that you see zipping around the city come with GPS guided tours that tell you where to go and interesting things about the sights you're passing, so it's a fun way to tour the city at your own pace. Muni Muni is San Franciscos bus and metro system that runs throughout the city, operating buses, trains, cable cars and the F-line heritage streetcar. They are fairly low now. Follow these tips and youll be the transportation hero of your San Francisco adventure. BART/Muni Adult "A" Fast Pass is a monthly pass for unlimited rides on BART within San Francisco (Embarcadero to Balboa Park stations) and on all SF Muni buses, trolleys and cable cars. Tap your card on there and it will light up green. The Red and White Ferry. How to Get to San Francisco from San Jose. Going south, it's a train from Daly City (at the SF border) to the SF airport. Get on, find a spot, then hand the pass (paper or plastic), or show MuniMobile on your phone, to the ticket-taker for them to scan. Round trip BART fares from OAK to San Francisco ($20.40), downtown Oakland ($15.90) or other East Bay cities are less than half the cost of taxis or shuttles to the same destination. Shared Van & Shuttle Service Several privately-owned, shared-ride vans provide service between SFO and passenger-specified locations. The city was gradually reopening many businesses and activities, but in December, 2020, came under another strict, stay-at-home directive,due to a sudden increase in infection and hospitalization rates. If you dont have enough value on your ticket to exit, dont worry - you can add money to the ticket to exit at the Add Fare machine in the station. Buy your ticket at ticket machines at the SFO BART station. Both are in Zone 1. Outdoor events for >10,000: may require proof of vaccination or negative test, but aren't required to. Allow a minimum of 60 minutes to arrive in San Francisco. TaxiAs is customary in most U.S. cities, visitors may hail a taxi directly or use a smartphone app. It's not really a subway compared to the extensive, city-wide, underground-transportation networks that other cities have. When the trains leaving downtown are arriving packed, and almost no one can get on, at the Powell, Montgomery or Civic Center stations, take a train the opposite direction back to Embarcadero station. Face masks are required on all the buses, trains and ferries. To use them, you must first download the app, register, and set up a credit card payment system. But it's only available through the MuniMobile app. many restaurants are open for take-out or delivery. You can call or make your reservation online. Once your MuniMobile account is set up, you can purchase the pass on it. How to get a Clipper Card. Another option, especially for first-time visitors, is getting a 1 or 2-day pass on one of the Hop On Hop Off bus tours that combine a city tour with transportation over a large part of the city.
